Losing weight with God

I have been a yo-yo dieter as far as I can remember. When you don’t have God in the center of your life, you find alternatives to help you get through life. For some people, they turn to alcohol, drugs or cigarettes. Many people turn to food as their comfort. That is me.  I have tried the majority of fad diets, from NutriSystem, Jenny Craig to Weight Watchers as well as pills and diet teas. Some of the programs do work and help you lose weight but they don’t get to the root of the problems for which you use food as a crutch.  For a while I was attending Overeaters Anonymous meetings. At first I felt like this was exactly what I needed but as I started to listen to everyone and understand the structure of the program, I felt it wasn’t for me.

As I continue to pray and develop a deeper relationship with Jesus and our Blessed Mother, your mind and soul start to get flooded with ideas and you begin to see life as if you had a new set of eyes. It’s like a puzzle beginning to form right in front of you. It’s pretty amazing how God works. About a few weeks ago, as I was starting to feel upset about my weight, a thought just popped into my mind….Lose weight with God. Hmmm….as I pondered those words I started to feel like this was it for me….it was time for me to get my body healthy and truly allow my body to become a Temple for the Holy Spirit.

When I receive the Holy Eucharist, I always ask Jesus to enter my body and cleanse me and become a part of me. I never once thought that my body was not a healthy place for him. But slowly He is finding ways to nudge me and guide me to follow Him and allow Him to help me become how He always intended for me to be in the phystical, emotional and spiritual forms.  God doesn’t create ugly. We do that to ourselves. We deform our bodies and souls to such an extent that there isn’t a trace of God’s beauty. That is when the vicious cycle begins of spending money on cosmetic improvements, fad diets, operations, etc. It’s never enough or we lose weight and gain it right back and plus some more. The vicious cycle continues. Break free once and for all . . .

One day I woke up and felt my soul saying . . . Today is the day! I started my day by praying and asking God, my Blessed Mother Rosa Mystica, my Guardian Angel, St. Raphael and my Patron Saint to help me break free from the bondage I have with food. I asked them to help me through the day so that I could lose weight and become healthy again and be able to become a true Temple for the Holy Spirit. I asked for the strength to withstand the hunger pains and overcome the need to eat and eat. The one thing that I really feel has helped is that I offered up my hunger, pains and discomforts for the conversion of a soul that is dear to me. I have been praying for this conversion but it feels like the more I pray the harder the nut to crack! But I know that God will not refuse me this conversion because I am now offering my hunger. I must tell you how liberated I now feel. I feel empowered because my body no longer controls me but through Heaven’s intercession, I am able to control my body. The moment I acknowledged and accepted that I am nothing without the help of God, our Blessed Mother and all the Angels and Saints, I allowed my soul to be liberated. I have opened the door to my heart and soul and God is now the driving force in my life.  Everyone has different nutritional needs so you can choose the method that best works for you as far as dieting goes.  Whether you decide to follow a program like Weight Watchers or do it on your own like I am. The majority of people are like me who know what we are supposed to do but just don’t have the willpower to actually stick with it.  So it should be fine for you to do your own diet.   Especially now with the economic challenges we are faced with, we need to make ever dollar stretch!  You can start with baby steps and just start to cut down on what you are already eating.  If your eating habits are that poor than just by cutting down in portion than you will still lose weight.  The first few weeks, you will start to drop weight fairly quickly as your body is in shock and adjusting to change.  It’s later on when your body start to get used to what you are doing and slow down the weight loss than you will need to jumpstart things but changing your routine.  Start cutting down on calories and increase your activity levels.  Losing weight is not complicated. We make it complicated by our weaknesses but that is where God comes in.  Pray Pray and don’t stop praying especially at your weakest points in your day and he will give you the strength.  God doesn’t fail us …..we fail Him!    I personally have been doing more of a liquid diet with meal replacement shakes.  It is a drastic change from what I was eating and I am doing this because this causes me to have severe hunger but I want to offer my hunger and desire to eat to God. This is my way of making reparation for my sins and requesting conversion for someone I love.  Whatever you decide to do the most important thing to remember is to pray.  I can’t stress that enough. Pray in the morning and if you have time in the afternoon especially when you get that afternoon sluggish feeling and pray at night.  Throughout the day when you start to get a craving, an overwhelming desire to eat or severe hunger, say ‘I trust in You, Jesus’ over and over again and you will be amazed at how powerful those words can become.  I am happy to report that I have lost already about 10 pounds and I have 60 more to go. Join me on this journey if you have some weight to lose. God will not fail you. If you truly humble yourself and acknowledge that nothing happens in this world without his intercession, than you will triumph and finally once and for all break free from the bondage of any yo-yo dieting. Your mind will become clearer and your body will become a Temple of the Holy Spirit. You will start to transform yourself and slowly that beauty for which God had always intended for you will start shine through!

Prayer I have been inspired to use . . .

Dear Father, my Lord Jesus Christ, my Rosa Mystica, my Guardian Angel, St. Raphael, St. Michael, my Patron Saint and all the Angels and Saints,

I pray to you for the strength to stop overeating which destroys my body and health. Please give me the willpower to break free from this bondage I have with food.   Help me transform my body and allow it to become a true Temple for the Holy Spirit.  May the Holy Spirit always dwell in me and the beauty for which you have always intended for me, may it shine forth as an example for those around me.   I now understand that I am not my own. You purchased my soul on the Cross with your Precious Blood.  Through your Precious Blood, I command my body and flesh to no longer follow the ways of the world but to imitate the will of God.  Please give me the strength, discipline and love of the cross to always turn to You for comfort during my sorrows and not to food or anything/anybody else to satisfy me. For it is through You that I will find true and lasting happiness. All earthly solutions are only temporary and contribute to the instability of my mind, body and soul which allows the devil an opportunity to guide me away from eternal salvation.  Please accept my hunger and cravings for food as reparation for my sins and to provide spiritual food for those on earth that don’t have food to eat. That they may be nourished through the Holy Spirit and one day truly rejoice in the most highest form of Heaven possible. Dear Father, through the intercession of my Blessed Mother, Rosa Mystica, I request Her help in learning to become humble and selfless and to always keep me under Her mantle.  Dear Father, through the intercession of St. Raphael, I request the healing of my mind, emotions and body so that I may no longer find comfort for my sorrows on earth but only turn to You.   Dear Father, through the intercession of St. Michael, I request liberation of my mind, emotions and body so that I may no longer suffer from the bondage that continues to keep me so far away from You.   May this liberation allow me to see the world through Your eyes and may I live my life as You have designed for me. Thank you for hearing my prayers, never giving up on me, for waiting with open arms to accept and love me despite my sinfulness and truly being unworthy of Your merciful love.   Amen.
